Northwest Hospital Earns American Diabetes Association Recognition

The American Diabetes Association recently awarded the Diabetes & Nutrition Center at Northwest Hospital an Education Recognition Certificate upon determining that the center meets their high national standards for diabetes self-management education.

"This prestigious honor means that the American Diabetes Association recognizes that our certified diabetic educators are highly effective at training their patients to manage their disease," says Brian White, president and COO of Northwest Hospital. "We’re proud that the members of our community with diabetes can feel confident that by seeking out care at the Diabetes & Nutrition Center, they will gain the tools they need to be healthier through their diet and lifestyle changes."

Recognition was granted after the Diabetes & Nutrition Center at Northwest Hospital voluntarily subjected itself to be surveyed. This distinction demonstrates that the American Diabetes Association believes the professionals at the Diabetes & Nutrition Center to be effective at:

  • improving clinical outcomes
  • helping patients understand the big picture of diabetes management
  • educating patients from a variety of cultural and age-appropriate approaches
  • providing ongoing support for patients
  • encouraging patients to set behavior-based goals

Education Recognition status is verified by an official certificate from the American Diabetes Association and awarded for four years.

Since its opening late last year, the Diabetes & Nutrition Center has been providing patient care for diabetes management. The center’s certified diabetic educators create individual plans of care that include day-to-day methods of managing food intake, physical activity and glucose levels. The American Diabetes Association’s stamp of approval assures patients that they are seeing clinicians who are recognized as elite members of their field.

The American Diabetes Association is the nation’s leading non-profit health organization supporting diabetes research, advocacy and information for health professionals, patients and the public. Founded in 1940, the Association has an area office in every state and conducts programs in communities nationwide.
