Sinai Hospital is the first to offer Faster and More Precise Radiotherapy for Cancer Patients

Sinai Hospital’s Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute is the first in the region to offer cancer patients the new TrueBeam radiation therapy system. This innovative medical technology enables a radically different approach to treating cancer with image-guided radiotherapy. Jeanette Linder, M.D., chief of Radiation Oncology, and Cardella Coleman, M.D., are now offering the treatment to patients diagnosed with most types of cancers.
“We are proud to be the only center offering TrueBeam in the mid-Atlantic region. This machine adds a new level of safety, precision and comfort for our patients more so than ever before and allows us to choose the optimal approach for our patients,” said Linder.
With dose delivery rates that are 40–140 percent higher than earlier generations of radiation therapies, TrueBeam makes it possible to offer greater patient comfort by shortening treatment times, and to improve precision by leaving less time for tumor motion during dose delivery. “Intelligent” automation further speeds treatments with an up to fivefold reduction in the number of steps needed for image guidance and dose delivery.
“TrueBeam complements our CyberKnife stereotactic radiation therapy and other radiation therapy programs,” said Linder. “The addition of TrueBeam completes our state-of-the-art, full-service Radiation Oncology department.”
