Neal Naff, M.D., Named Division Head of Neurosurgery

Sinai Hospital of Baltimore has appointed Neal Naff, M.D., to the position of division head of Neurosurgery in the Department of Surgery. Naff has been part of the medical staff at Sinai Hospital since 1999. His new role takes effect January 1, 2003.

"Dr. Naff has already helped Sinai's Neurosurgery division by securing some of the most exciting new advancements and procedures in the industry,” said Sinai Hospital president Neil Meltzer. "He has been instrumental in the continued development of our neuro-critical and neuro-oncologic capabilities.”

CyberKnife®, a groundbreaking and unique radiation therapy that uses cruise missile technology to accurately locate and target tumors, is just one of many new procedures that Naff has had a hand in bringing on board to Sinai. The GliaSite®, Radiation Therapy System (RTS), an internal radiation therapy that delivers radiation directly at the site of the tumor from within the tumor cavity, is another.

"The Department of Surgery at Sinai is fortunate to have Dr. Naff lead the Neurosurgery division,” said Adrian Barbul, M.D., chief of the Department of Surgery. "He is a skilled surgeon who is always interested in keeping up with the latest advancements in medicine.”

"I am excited and proud to be part of a team that is one of the leading providers of neurosurgical services in the state of Maryland,” said Naff.

Naff completed his medical school training and residency at Johns Hopkins and has since won several awards for his work. Currently he has faculty appointments at both the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and the Uniformed Services University School of Health Services. He has also authored more than 40 peer reviewed articles, book chapters and abstracts.
