SINAI HOSPITAL'S STROKE CENTER EARNS
NATIONAL GOLD LEVEL AWARD
The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association have
awarded Sinai Hospital the Gold Performance Achievement Award for reaching and
maintaining high standards at its stroke center.
The "Get With the
Guidelines – Stroke” gold award is presented to hospitals
that demonstrate a
minimum of 85 percent compliance for key measures for 24 consecutive months.
Those measures
focus on demonstrated continual improvement of treating stroke patients,
prevention of future strokes, and guidelines-based diagnosis and discharge of
stroke patients. Sinai joins Johns Hopkins Hospital as the only hospitals in
Maryland that earned the award along with about 30 hospitals nationwide. "This
award demonstrates that our certified stroke center provides excellent care for
our patients,” said Adrian Goldszmidt, chief of the Department of Neurology for
LifeBridge Health Brain and Spine Institute. "The community can be certain that
when they come here, they are getting excellent and consistent care.”
According to the American Stroke Association, strokes are
the nation's third leading cause of death following diseases of the heart and
cancer. More than 750,000 Americans suffer a stroke each year, meaning, on
average, a stroke happens every 40 seconds.
The
Stroke Center at Sinai Hospital is a program of the Brain and Spine Institute of
LifeBridge Health, a center of excellence for neurological and neurosurgical
care.
Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is a member of
LifeBridge Health, a regional health care organization, which includes Northwest
Hospital Center, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital and related
subsidiaries and affiliates.
