|
|
LifeBridge Health has won the Green Policy category of the Baltimore Business Journal's Green Awards. The Green Awards recognize the greenest Baltimore businesses in eight different categories.
LifeBridge Health was recognized for energy conservation, recycling, switching to green cleaning products, waste management and reduction, and a variety of other green initiatives.
"Making a valuable impact requires everyone doing their part throughout the system," says Peter Arn, vice president of Campus Services and Capital Improvements for LifeBridge Health. "The green process is an ongoing effort. There's always room to do more."
In addition, LifeBridge Health is recognized for its efforts in the following areas:
- Increasing the use of recyclable products by 65 percent, or 470,000 pounds, in 2008.
- Composting 65,000 pounds of food waste.
- Installing lights that switch off automatically when a room is unoccupied.
- Planned construction of a green roof for the atrium topping a six-story addition to Sinai Hospital and the planned use of recycled glass in that new addition. The project is expected to be completed by the end of June.
LifeBridge Health is one of Baltimore's largest health care organizations that includes Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Northwest Hospital, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, and Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home.
