Jewish Convalescent Names New Administrator

Jennifer Labute has been named the administrator of Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home. Her responsibilities include the day-to-day running of the nursing home and the strategic planning of future projects at Jewish Convalescent.

Jewish ConvalescentJewish Convalescent has been serving the community since 1936, bringing the highest quality of medical care, a home-like atmosphere and the Jewish culture to our residents,” says Labute. "In addition to building on those long-standing traditions, a top-notch staff of professionals is in place at Jewish Convalescent to continue providing a team approach to meet the individual needs of every resident.”

Labute took over as administrator at Jewish Convalescent last month after five years at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital. Both centers are part of LifeBridge Health, one of the largest, most comprehensive providers of health service in the Northwest Baltimore area, which also includes Sinai Hospital and Northwest Hospital Center.

Labute began working in health care ten years ago. In 1999, she became an administrative assistant at Levindale, earned a promotion to special projects coordinator and then to the assistant administrator. She recently earned her Nursing Administrator's License from the Maryland State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators. "Jennifer not only brings her unique expertise to this position at Jewish Convalescent, but she also has a wonderful way of dealing with people, both residents and staff,” says Ronald Rothstein, Senior Vice President of LifeBridge Health.

During her years at Levindale, Labute is most proud of her involvement in the National Nursing Home Improvement Collaborative, a workshop designed to prevent and treat pressure ulcers and the implementation of the Eden Alternative.

"The Eden philosophy fights the three plagues of the elderly, loneliness, helplessness and boredom with companionship, empowerment and spontaneity,” Labute says. "Jewish Convalescent is already a registered Eden center, but I plan to give the program a fresh start, bringing pets to live here, having residents do gardening and continuing visits from children.”

Labute was born and raised in the Baltimore area, is married and lives in Baltimore County.
