David Tarantino, M.D., Joins Northwest Hospital As Chief Of Anesthesia


Northwest Hospital is pleased to announce that David Tarantino, M.D., has been named chief of the Department of Anesthesiology. Prior to joining Northwest Hospital, Tarantino was an attending anesthesiologist and director of pain management services at the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. "Dr. Tarantino brings years of clinical and administrative experience to Northwest Hospital,” said Erik Wexler, president and COO, Northwest Hospital. "His tremendous leadership abilities will allow us to continue to deliver the best care to our patients.”

During his 17 years at Shock Trauma, Tarantino also served as executive medical director of Shock Trauma Associates, a 50-physician, multispecialty practice associated with the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He was associate director of the Division of Anesthesiology and medical director of the operating rooms and peri-operative services.

In addition to his clinical and administrative experience, Tarantino is the chief executive officer of the MD Consulting Group, LLC, a health care consulting firm in Baltimore. He is also a columnist for the Physician Executive, the journal of the American College of Physician Executives, where his column "The Nuts and Bolts of Business” appears. He has published more than 30 columns on business topics in health care. He is a nationally recognized speaker on both clinical and business topics.

Tarantino received his undergraduate and medical degrees from Brown University. He completed his anesthesiology residency training and pain medicine fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. In addition, Tarantino received his master's degree in business administration with honors from the Sellinger School of Business at Loyola College in Maryland. Tarantino is board certified in anesthesiology and pain medicine.
