Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Northwest Hospital Earns National Certification
|
|
The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) granted its certification to LifeBridge Health's cardiac rehabilitation Phase II program based at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown. The AACVPR has high standards and guidelines; certification for Northwest Hospital's cardiac rehabilitation program was awarded after a rigorous review of 14 different program aspects, including the skill level of the staff, individual patient treatment plans and an assessment of the program's patient outcomes.
"I'm proud of the cardiac rehabilitation team and their commitment to delivering a quality program. Our cardiac rehab patients genuinely enjoy coming to their sessions, and many consider their experiences with the program life changing. Also, statistics show that patients who participate in Phase II cardiac rehab significantly reduce their chances of having another heart-related medical emergency," says Erik Wexler, Northwest Hospital's president.
Cardiac rehabilitation Phase II is a 12-week, medically supervised and telemetry-monitored exercise program. It is designed to help patients who have experienced a heart attack or other heart condition lower their risk of a future heart event by making lifestyle changes. Besides getting patients into a customized exercise regimen, the program offers diet and nutrition counseling, stress management, smoking cessation classes, and education.
In addition to a warm and helpful staff that includes nurses, fitness technicians, a physical therapist, a dedicated dietitian and a board-certified cardiologist as medical director, the Phase II program at Northwest Hospital features:
- A state-of-the-art exercise area with large screen TVs and a comfort station where patients can rest and grab a cup of water
- The area's largest array of high-tech fitness equipment, including recumbent and upright bikes, rowing machines, seated and standing elliptical trainers, and a stretching station
- Educational programs designed to answer questions about lifestyle changes, nutrition and exercise
- Flexible hours of operation with hour-long classes meeting Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 7:00, 8:15, 9:30 and 10:30 and afternoons at 3:00 and 4:00
Northwest Hospital is a part of LifeBridge Health, one of the largest, most comprehensive providers of health services in Northwest Baltimore. LifeBridge Health also includes Sinai Hospital, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, Courtland Gardens Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, and related subsidiaries and affiliates.
