Sinai Hospital Holds Its Second Annual Race for Our Kids

On Sunday, June 4, hundreds of people will fill the streets surrounding Sinai Hospital for the second annual running of the "Race for Our Kids." Runners and walkers of all ages will take part in either a 10K or 5K race or 1-mile Family Walk, with the proceeds benefiting Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at The Children's Hospital at Sinai.  Last year, more than 700 people participated in the inaugural event, which raised over $50,000 for the program.

The day gets under way with registration beginning at 6 a.m., and the first race starting at 8 a.m.  An awards ceremony will be held near the finish line in the Sinai Hospital front parking lot at 9:30 a.m.

The "Race for Our Kids" was created by Scott Phin, the father of Peyton Phin, who was treated for acute myelogenous leukemia (AML) at The Children's Hospital at Sinai.  AML is a malignant cancer that originates in a cell in the marrow, and the survival rate is among the lowest of all forms of leukemia in childhood.  The cause is unknown and the treatment in most cases is intensive chemotherapy.  But, after months of extensive treatment, Peyton is one of the lucky ones and is presently in remission.  In appreciation of the treatment and care his whole family received at The Children's Hospital at Sinai, Scott made it his personal mission to create the "Race for Our Kids" to benefit Pediatric Hematology/Oncology and the Pediatric Remote Anesthesia Program/PICU.

At The Children's Hospital at Sinai, where children with cancer are treated, patients and their families are the top priority. The philosophy is team-directed patient care offering the best in cutting-edge treatment in an environment that best suits the patient and the family needs.

Sinai is proud of its Children's Hospital Pediatric Hematology/Oncology team, composed of three specialty care hematology-oncology nurses, two nurse practitioners, four physicians, a laboratory within the clinic site, a social worker, exceptional front desk personnel and access to state-of-the-art support services.

Sinai Hospital is part of LifeBridge Health, a regional health care organization
that includes Northwest Hospital CenterLevindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and HospitalJewish Convalescent & Nursing Home, and related subsidiaries and affiliates.
