Sinai Hospital of Baltimore Named Top Health Care Provider

Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is the winner of two prestigious Premier Awards for Quality in the areas of Heart Failure and Coronary Artery Bypass Graft. These nationally recognized awards honor clinical excellence in both quality of care and operational efficiency, differentiating its winners as industry leaders that deliver outstanding patient care while reducing the cost of health care by improving resource utilization. Sinai is the only Baltimore-based hospital to win an award.

The Premier Award for Quality, given in five clinical areas and based on quality and cost data regularly submitted to Premier for reporting and benchmarking purposes, is distinguished by its consideration of performance-based criteria including clinical quality outcomes, clinical process indicators and resource utilization outcomes.

"Better health care through better use of information and resources is what distinguishes Premier Award for Quality winners from their peers,” said Stephanie Alexander, senior vice president and general manager of Premier Healthcare Informatics.

"These hospitals, big and small, are leading the industry using best practices and evidence-based decision making to develop more efficient ways to deliver excellent patient care.”

Only three winners were picked in each category for each hospital type from an eligible pool of nearly 400 Premier hospitals. Hospitals that submitted data to Premier's Perspective ™ clinical comparative database (the largest clinical comparative database in the nation) between July 2003 and July 2004 were eligible to participate in the 2005 Premier Award for Quality program. "Our employees seek better ways to improve patient care each and every day. The Premier Award for Quality is evidence of our success in developing more efficient ways of delivering excellent care to our patients,” said Neil Meltzer, president and COO, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.

On behalf of all Sinai Hospital physicians and employees, Valerie Allen, director of Cardiac Patient Care Services, accepted the award at the 2005 Premier Annual Breakthroughs Conference & Exhibition in Las Vegas on May 18.

"Today's technology allows us to use comprehensive tools to collect and analyze data about the delivery of patient care over time. Tools, such as the Premier Advisor Suite ™, make it simple to see where improvements can be made and to track progress of quality improvement initiatives,” said Meltzer. "By analyzing how and what we do, we can do it better.”

Premier Healthcare Informatics offers performance measurement, benchmarking and reporting products, and related advisory services and methodologies to support health systems' and hospitals' quality improvement efforts. Premier Healthcare Informatics is part of Premier, Inc., a strategic health care alliance that provides an array of performance solutions to hospitals and other providers.

Sinai Hospital is part of LifeBridge Health, a regional health care organization that also includes Northwest Hospital Center, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home, and related subsidiaries and affiliates.
