Barbara Epke Named AHA "Grassroots Champion"

Barbara Epke, LifeBridge Health vice president, has been honored by the American Hospital Association (AHA) in conjunction with the Maryland Hospital Association (MHA) as a "Grassroots Champion." The award is given to one hospital official from each state who over the past year has effectively delivered the hospital message to elected officials; helped broaden the base of community support for hospitals; and advocated tirelessly on behalf of patients, hospitals and the community he or she serves.

"To be named with some of the best grassroots leaders in the country is truly an honor," said Epke. "At LifeBridge Health we strive to provide the highest quality care by working closely with the community and state and local leaders to improve patient care."

Epke has served on the Governor's Health Cost & Quality Council since its 2008 inception and serves on state regulatory bodies working on statewide public reporting and quality initiatives. She has served on the Maryland Hospital Association's Council on Clinical and Quality Issues since 1994, and is known for motivating her colleagues across the state to participate in various patient safety and quality initiatives. Her dedication was particularly critical to the development of Maryland's Hospital Performance Guide and the Health Services Cost Review Commission's Quality-Based Reimbursement project.

The Grassroots Champion award will be given to Barbara Epke on April 27 in Washington, D.C. Epke will receive her award along with winners from other states.
