Frequently Asked Questions - Cardiac Rehabilitation Program

Q. I just had my procedure, so when should I start my cardiac rehabilitation program?

A. Ask your doctor about cardiac rehabilitation at your first follow-up appointment. Based on how you are feeling and other factors, you and your doctor will decide when Phase II is right for you. Some patients start only days after their procedure and others wait a few months.

Q. I feel very weak and tired, so how can I do an exercise program?

A. At the start of Phase II cardiac rehab, a personalized exercise program is developed to meet the individual needs of each patient. Therefore, patients start at the level that is right for them. Careful observation and heart monitoring by the Cardiac Rehab team will permit you to move along at a safe pace. Progress reports are periodically sent to your referring physician.

Q. Do I have to participate in the program three times per week?  What happens if I miss a session?

A. To get the most benefits from the Cardiac Rehabilitation program, it is important that you attend three times per week. That is why we offer classes at various times during the day so that you can pick a time that works with your schedule. We understand that occasionally conflicts will occur, and we will do what we can to fit you into another class. All missed sessions can be made up.

Q. Is cardiac rehabilitation covered by insurance?

A. LifeBridge Health accepts most health insurance plans. Many insurance plans reimburse for Phase II Cardiac Rehabilitation. Financial counseling is available at Northwest Hospital to discuss insurance reimbursement and/or payment options. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call 410-701-4333.
