Levindale Celebrates Opening of New Households
On December 7, 2011, more than 200 people gathered at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital for a dedication ceremony to celebrate the first phase of a new $31 million complex for long-term care residents on its Harry & Jeanette Weinberg campus that will completely change the face of elder care.
Called the Households at Levindale, the three-story wing adds 87,000 square feet to the center’s current footprint. The two-story entrance is a modern, airy town center with a welcoming atmosphere. Among the amenities for residents, their families and friends to enjoy are a cafe, a boutique and a permanent exhibit from the Jewish Museum of Maryland.
When it comes to the living quarters for residents, the feeling is cozy and warm. There are two small households of 14 suites on each of three floors. The private bedrooms are spacious and European bathrooms.
Beautiful country kitchens are located at the center of each household, just as the kitchen is the center of activity in most single family homes. There are also hearth areas with fireplaces, floor to ceiling windows, dens, libraries and wireless Internet access. Still in progress is a Levindale Auxiliary sponsored sensory garden.

Seventh Annual Save-A-Limb Ride Raises More Than $200,000
The sixth annual Save-A-Limb Ride, Walk and Festival took place in October and was a tremendous success. Over 1,000 people participated in the event and more than $200,000 was raised for the Save-A-Limb Fund. The Save-A-Limb Fund financially assists patients who cannot afford physical therapy, housing during lengthy treatments, transportation or adaptive equipment such as wheelchairs. In addition, the Fund supports the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics’ international outreach missions which help adults and children with orthopedic problems in countries such as Nicaragua, India and Haiti.
The date for next year's Save-A-Limb Ride is Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Oregon Ridge Park. The event will include 6-mile, 15-mile, 30-mile, and metric century rides as well as a 1-mile family walk, post-ride picnic, kids' festival and fitness fair. Chris Horner, who won the 2011 Tour of California and the 2010 Tour of the Basque Country, will be riding the metric century this year. Horner currently rides for Team RadioShack and was a champion in the 2002, 2003 and 2004 USA Cycling National Racing Calendar.
