Many people with chest pain fear a heart attack. However, there are many possible causes of chest pain. Some causes are not dangerous to your health, while other causes are serious and even life-threatening.
Any organ or tissue in your chest can be the source of pain, including your heart, lungs, esophagus, muscles, ribs, tendons, or nerves. Pain may also spread to the chest from the neck, abdomen, and back.
The Emergency Chest Pain Center is a cornerstone of one of the most advanced cardiac care facilities in the region. It features an extensive monitoring system that includes an ambulance-to-hospital EKG transfer system; advanced cardiac stress tests; and an evaluation unit for individuals suffering chest pain without evidence of a heart attack.
The Chest Pain Evaluation Center is part of the LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute, one of the region's most advanced and comprehensive cardiac care centers. For the past three years, the Institute has been ranked as one of the country's top 50 Heart Hospitals by U.S News & World Report. Sinai Hospital is the only community hospital in Maryland to receive this important distinction.
