Candidates of bariatric surgery often suffer from heart disease and high blood pressure. In order to make sure at-risk patients are ready to undergo bariatric surgery they are evaluated by Paul Gurbel, MD, FACC, director, Sinai Center for Thrombosis Research, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. Dr. Gurbel performs a battery of tests to help prevent cardiac complications during surgery. He also follows up with these patients post-surgery.
