You Need Not Feel Alone
As a caregiver of a loved one with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia, you may often feel confused and frustrated. Watching someone become increasingly disoriented, undergo personality changes, become frustrated with memory loss and myriad other difficulties can take its toll on your own mental health and well-being. It's too easy to become isolated because of the demands of caregiving, the forced changes in lifestyle, the loss of friends, or lack of family support. But, you will need help and support more than ever as the disease progresses. Levindale can give you the support you need.
Let Levindale Help You
Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital recognizes the unique needs of the caregiver and offers a very special answer -- the "Support Group For Families of Confused Elders." The group consists of caregivers, family members, and friends of those with Alzheimer's or related dementia. The focus of the group is emotional support for you, as you cope with the illness, so that you will not become a "victim" of the disease. Members share information and learn about community resources such as adult day care, consumer information, financial and legal assistance, and alternative living arrangements such as group facilities and nursing homes.
Caring and Confidentiality
Perhaps what is most important about Levindale's support group is the atmosphere of caring, frankness, and confidentiality. It's a safe place to air emotions without guilt and to receive positive reinforcement from those who understand the hard work of caregiving. It's a non-judgmental environment where members can vent frustrations, anger, and disappointment, as well as share successes. Members will feel better prepared as the loved one's condition worsens, as well as more hopeful once they have seen that others are surviving the caregiving experience.
