The Sinai Hospital Spine Fellowship Program accepts two qualified orthopedic surgeons or neurosurgeons each year for a one-year subspecialty fellowship. The fellowship program is limited to board-certified/board-eligible physicians who desire to pursue postgraduate training in the field of spinal surgery.

The spinal surgery fellowship at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore offers a comprehensive training experience in all aspects of spine care. Clinical exposure, in the office setting, focuses on preoperative evaluation and patient selection and is the cornerstone of the fellowship experience. Typically, the fellows participate in an average of 275-300 cases per year with the following distribution: 20% cervical, 15% thoracic, 65% lumbar.  All types of spinal conditions, including adult degenerative, deformity and tumor, are well represented.

The fellows are responsible for coordinating and overseeing inpatient care with the orthopedic residents, physician assistants and Spine Center staff. Additionally, the fellows are actively involved in educational and research programs ranging from didactic sessions with the residents to interdisciplinary spinal conferences. A minimum of one “publication ready” or national meeting caliber paper is required for fellowship graduation.

The Spine Center faculty includes three full-time orthopedic spine surgeons and affiliated neurosurgeons. The faculty participates in the development and implementation of minimally invasive techniques and cutting-edge technological advances.
