Our inpatient Traumatic Brain Injury Unit at
Sinai
Hospital is one of only three accredited inpatient units in the
state. The unit is designed to improve the quality of life, to enhance
self-care, to educate patients and families, and to prepare patients for
transition to home and/or continued rehabilitation.
One of the departments key components is RECOVER!,
RESTORE! & RETURN!, a three-level brain injury program offered at the
Sinai
Rehabilitation Center and at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital.
- RECOVER!
Coma Emergency Program, based at
Levindale
Specialty
Hospital, helps patients recover
from the low-arousal or unresponsive state typically associated with a
coma.
- RESTORE!
Program, offered at Sinai
Hospital, uses a team of
clinicians, such as the physiatrist, nurses and therapists with the highest
level of expertise to treat patients emerging from a coma.
- RETURN!
Program, a brain injury re-entry outpatient program, offers a structured,
consistent weekly schedule of group and individual activities that are
developed to assist patients in their return to work, school or the
community.
The multidisciplinary team includes physicians, a
rehabilitative nurse, an occupational therapist, a speech language pathologist,
a neuropsychologist, a social worker and a physical therapist. No matter what
the diagnosis, the treatment team provides individualized and group treatment to
improve communication, cognition, swallowing, functional activities of daily
living and physical abilities.
