Williams and Wilson also to form the preeminent hydrocephalus center in the country

LifeBridge Health recently appointed Michael A. Williams, M.D., as medical director of the Brain & Spine Institute.  Williams, a board-certified neurologist and a leading authority on adult hydrocephalus, is also the director of the Adult Hydrocephalus Center at Sinai. Joining Williams is Robin K. Wilson, M.D., Ph.D., who will serve as associate director of the Adult Hydrocephalus Center at Sinai.

The development of the Brain & Spine Institute comes at a time when there is a growing need for such comprehensive neurological services in the community, said Neil Meltzer, president and COO of Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. We are excited to welcome Drs. Williams and Wilson, who will be leading Sinai into the future of hydrocephalus diagnosis, treatment and research.

As medical director of the LifeBridge Health Brain & Spine Institute, Williams is dedicated to providing patients with the best care possible. He, along with other medical staff and LifeBridge Health senior management, will work to integrate the three aspects of care the initial diagnosis, surgery and post-operative rehabilitation to help provide for a better experience for patients and establish an Institute that will significantly alter Baltimores medical landscape for those seeking help with neurological disorders.

Im looking forward to helping create one of the preeminent brain and spine programs in the United States, said Williams. We have put together an amazing team of physicians, nurses and support staff that Im excited to be a part of.

Williams is a graduate of the Indiana University School of Medicine. Following a transitional internship at Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis, he completed his neurology residency at Indiana University Medical Center and his fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital, focusing in Neuroscience Critical Care. Prior to joining Sinai, Williams was an attending physician in the Neurosciences Critical Care Unit at Hopkins for the past 11 years, where he founded the hospitals Adult Hydroscephalus Program.

In addition to his clinical work, Williams is a widely sought-after lecturer and educator. He is on the Medical Advisory Board of the Hydrocephalus Association, the largest patient advocacy group for hydrocephalus in the United States. Williams is also active on numerous advisory committees and panels with a focus on ethics, organ donation and end-of-life-care including the Ethics, Law and Humanities Committee of the American Academy of Neurology, Med-Chi Ethics Committee, the American Neurological Association and the American Medical Associations House of Delegates.

Wilson graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, after which she interned in Medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and completed a neurology residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Wilson received her fellowship training in Adult Hydrocephalus at Johns Hopkins Hospital under the direction of Dr. Williams.  In addition, Wilson also earned a Ph.D. in Genetics from Cornell University in 1994.
