Description

One of the nations top hospitals for endocrinology is located in Marylands backyard, according to the 2007 U.S. News & World Report Americas Best Hospital issue. The nationally recognized report, which ranks centers in 17 specialties from cancer and heart disease to pediatrics and urology, listed Sinai Hospital of Baltimore 49th in the country for endocrinology. This is the second time the Division of Endocrinology has been honored with this prestigious distinction.

Sinai is honored, once again, to receive acknowledgment by U.S. News & World Report for the quality of care received when people walk through our doors, said Neil M. Meltzer, president and COO, Sinai Hospital. This recognition is a true testament to the quality of the physicians, nurses and staff at Sinai and the hospitals level of commitment to endocrinology and medicine.

The Division of Endocrinology in the Department of Medicine at Sinai Hospital is led by David S. Cooper, MD, and provides comprehensive endocrine consultative services to patients with a wide variety of endocrinologic and metabolic disorders, including: thyroid diseases, diabetes, lipid disorders, osteoporosis and calcium disorders, hypogonadism in men and women, androgenic disorders in women, and diseases of the pituitary and and adrenal glands.

Being recognized as a Top Hospital by U.S. News and World Report is further validation of Sinai Hospitals endocrinologists expertise, and identifies it as a trusted resource within the community, said Cooper.
Dr. Cooper is the current President of the American Thyroid Association, as well as the Chair of the Subspecialty Board on Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Since 1989, U.S. News & World Report has annually published Americas Best Hospitals as a way to identify facilities with the best level of medical care. To be eligible for the ranking, a hospital must belong to the Council of Teaching Hospitals, be affiliated with a medical school or have at least nine technology-related services out of a prescribed list of 17. Qualified hospitals are then numerically assessed based on several elements including reputation among specialists, mortality rates and other care-related factors. Ranked hospitals are those with the 50 highest scores.

Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is part of LifeBridge Health, a regional health organization that also includes Northwest Hospital Center, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home and related subsidiaries and affiliates.
