How can psychological services help?
Before surgery or treatment:
� Help you and your child decide on appropriate treatment
� Help prepare you and your child for surgery by addressing concerns and fears
� Assist with behavior problems that may interfere with successful treatment
After surgery or during treatment:
� Teach your child how to feel more comfortable and manage pain more effectively
� Assist with adjustment problems, including depression, anxiety, behavioral issues, loss of sleep, problems with peers and concerns about physical appearance
� Help you and your child improve cooperation with required treatment, including physical therapy and frame adjustments
� Help with adjusting to school
� Help your family manage stress related to your child�s treatment
Who is eligible for these services?
� Children and adolescents (18 years and younger) who are receiving orthopedic treatment at the RIAO
� Families of children who are receiving orthopedic treatment at the RIAO
What services are provided?
� Individual therapy
� Family therapy
� Group therapy
� Preoperative evaluation and preparation
� Pain management strategies
Appropriate services will be discussed after the initial evaluation.
