LifeBridge Health Home Orthopedic Surgery Press Releases International Center for Limb Lengthening Treatment Indications Bone Defects from Tumors, Trauma, or Infection

Font Size

Missing segments of bone from trauma, tumors, and infection are treated for infected nonunions by using shortening with re-lengthening or bone transport. This is a very successful method that can eliminate bone loss even as large as 25 cm (10 in). In some cases, we work with microsurgeons to reconstruct very large defects with a vascularized fibular graft.
