Because vascular surgery is an
integral part of the general surgery rotation(s) at Sinai, we designed
a specific rotation to provide the resident with a
high-volume vascular surgery experience and one-on-one training with our
vascular surgeons, during their PGY-IV year. During this rotation, the resident will be
able to follow patients from their pre-operative evaluation (office and
hospital setting) and to their post-operative
visits (Vascular Surgery office/attending clinic). The surgical resident will team with the vascular
attendings and perform a variety of operative cases (emergent and
elective) at different local hospitals. To maintain the concept of continuity
of care, the resident will follow the Vascular Surgery attending on-call to
round on the inpatients at those facilities. During office hours, the
resident will be exposed to clinical evaluation and interpretation of
non-invasive vascular and angiography studies. This rotation will also expose the
resident to the specifics of delivering surgical care in a group private
practice setting, including office hours and coverage of more than one
hospital for elective and emergent care.
During the rotation, the residents will participate in the following
educational activities: weekly surgery core and specialty curriculum,
surgery M&M and resident case-based lecture series, and monthly
Hopkins operative skills lab. |
