Your back hurts, your knees ache, your bones are feeling brittle. You need an orthopedist. Physicians at Sinai Hospital are setting the standard for cutting-edge orthopedic medicine in the region.
The Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (RIAO), located on the Sinai Hospital campus, is home to some of the world’s most renowned orthopedic surgeons and offers state-of-the-art treatment and a variety of orthopedic services. The Institute has two separate centers specializing in various orthopedic treatments.
The International Center for Limb Lengthening (ICLL) is recognized as the most experienced center for limb lengthening and reconstruction in the world. The center’s physicians are devoted to providing the most comprehensive and technologically advanced treatments available for pediatric and adult patients with congenital, developmental and post-traumatic limb deformities and limb length discrepancies.
They also treat skeletal abnormalities, other causes of short stature, bone defects, non-unions and arthritis. In addition, the ICLL has become a major referral center for the Ponseti method of clubfoot treatment and distraction treatment of Perthes disease, two new methods for treating these common pediatric disorders.
The Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement is a multidisciplinary center that focuses on nonoperative and surgical methods to treat joint pain and disorders, while using the most advanced methods. The center also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of joint pain in adults due to joint degeneration; avascular necrosis (bone death); and hip, knee, shoulder and ankle injuries.
Treatment includes physical therapy, medications, injections and state-of-the-art gait analysis. When conservative methods prove ineffective, surgical techniques are used.
Surgeons at the Center for Joint Preservation and Replacement have performed over 8,000 partial and total joint replacements for knees, hips and shoulders. These include unicompartmental knee replacements, metal-on-metal hip replacements and joint resurfacing procedures. Their work has made major contributions to the science of joint reconstruction and preservation through clinical and basic science research.
Located in a new four-story, 48,000-square-foot addition atop the Ansel and Ellen Schoeneman Rehabilitation Building, the RIAO houses five operating rooms; 18 private inpatient rooms, including two VIP suites; an outpatient clinic; gait lab; and a therapy pool.
