When cancer strikes, its not only the person who is affected, its the entire family. The usual approach to care means that patients must go to one or more specialists who may offer several different paths of treatment.
The physicians at the Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute
at LifeBridgeHealth and Northwest Hospital Center dont believe thats how patient care should be, especially when dealing with such a life-altering condition like cancer. Instead, the staff at the Lapidus Cancer Institute creates a circle of care that puts the patient and his or her family at the center.
Patients and their families will find something very rare indeed: a program large enough to offer leading-edge care yet small enough to touch individual lives. Under one roof, a variety of service areas are assembled around a central and integrated diagnostic area. When a patient is admitted, doctors in various subspecialties come together to diagnose and prescribe care.
Services include radiation oncology, pathology, urology, gynecologic oncology, hematology/medical oncology, orthopedic oncology, pediatric hematology/oncology, surgical oncology and oncology rehabilitation.
In addition, the Cancer Institute provides access to state-of-the-art treatment. The CyberKnife, which uses advanced tracking software to deliver treatment to previously inoperable tumors, and the therapy available off-campus at the LifeBridge Health Radiation Oncology Center in Owings Mills, complete this circle of care. Support groups, informational Lunch and Learn sessions and image recovery consultations following treatment add an extra touch to ease the transition toward recovery.
