David P. Buchalter, M.D., is
an orthopedic surgeon specializing in Sports Medicine and Advanced Arthroscopy. Dr.
Buchalter�s training includes a fellowship at Southern California
Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) in Los Angeles, California, which followed his
orthopedic training at the University of Pittsburgh. He earned his medical
degree from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, where he was
awarded the prestigious Cannon Scholarship for his compassion and empathy in
patient care. Dr. Buchalter did his undergraduate work at Duke University,
where he graduated cum laude.
Dr. Buchalter is one of few surgeons trained specifically in the latest
arthroscopic and minimally-invasive techniques for the shoulder, knee, hip, and
ankle. In addition to performing entirely arthroscopic repairs for rotator
cuff tears and shoulder instability, Dr. Buchalter performs total shoulder
replacement including the new Reverse shoulder replacement. In the knee,
Dr. Buchalter performs arthroscopic ACL reconstruction with a variety of graft
options, partial knee replacement, and minimally-invasive total knee
replacement.
He has published articles in several different medical journals including the
Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and Arthroscopy Association of North
America�s Technical Pearl�s. Dr. Buchalter has also presented papers at
annual meetings for the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the Arthroscopy
Association of North America, and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association. At
this May�s annual meeting of the Arthroscopy Association of North America, he
will present his outcomes of a new technique for meniscal repair without an
additional incision.
Dr. Buchalter serves as team physician to local Baltimore County Public high
schools and as a participant in the sports medicine outreach program at the
Orthopedic Specialty Center. During his career he has worked with many
collegiate and professional athletes in a variety of sports.
He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American
Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, and the Arthroscopy Association of
North America.
