At Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home, we strive to help each resident live life to the fullest of his and her capability. That means our activities manager tailors programs to individual needs, with special consideration for each person’s ability and interests. There is a full schedule of up to 10 activities per day, from baking challah to book clubs from gardening to exercise groups and arts and crafts.
Orchestras, choirs, dancers and teachers visit our residents regularly for fund and to help maintain intellectual acuity. Children from most Jewish schools, including Beth Tfiloh, Torah Institute, Chizuk Amuno and others, visit our residents and share the joy of the holidays. A Jewish Culture Hour, Yiddish Club and Jewish learning sessions are also offered.
Small group activities are geared to residents who need special attention. Room-bound residents can enjoy fulfilling activities that are brought to them.
Family Involvement
We understand that placing a family member in a nursing home can be difficult. That’s why we encourage family members to join activities, to visit loved ones frequently, and to share in special occasions like quiet Shabbat dinners. Children and grandchildren can make a relative’s day a joyous occasion. Families are also encouraged to attend art and music programs and enjoy wine and cheese receptions with our guests.
Our Social Work Department coordinates family counseling, conducts support groups and is always available to discuss family concerns.
Community Involvement
Residents can develop special relationships and stay active when volunteers visit from schools, synagogues and other community institutions. Speakers provide enriching cultural discussions and lectures, and residents participate in special events at Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home, including ritual shearings, sheva bruchot ceremonies and donor luncheons.
