The goal of the Sinai Hospital residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is to train physicians to care for people with disabling conditions. Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is an ever-changing specialty. To ensure an exceptional educational experience, we monitor developments in the field and restructure our program accordingly. At the present time, we recognize a need for physiatrists who can manage inpatient rehabilitation units and treat both acute and chronic neuromusculoskeletal problems, as well as a need for physiatrists who can manage acute and chronic pain problems through a holistic approach including the performance of appropriate interventional procedures. Thus, in addition to experiences in a number of different adult and pediatric inpatient rehabilitation settings, we have also included outpatient experiences in acupuncture and anesthesia pain procedures (i.e., epidural and facet blocks, soft tissue injection procedures, etc.).

The Sinai Hospital residency program in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation also understands the need to create a nurturing learning environment. Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is a modern and expanding community-based academic teaching facility. It is complemented by the other institutions in our residency-training program and by the easily accessible teaching faculty. Together, we provide the educational experiences that are needed to complete the training requirements of the Residency Review Committee for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
