Patients undergoing radiation therapy as part of cancer treatment can usually expect treatments five times a week for up to eight weeks. Stopping in for appointments can take a major portion of the day, especially if there is a long commute.
LifeBridge Health Radiation Oncology Center, located at 25 Crossroads Drive in Owings Mills, provides patients with a second convenient location to receive treatment.
Services at the LifeBridge Health Radiaton Oncology Center at Owings Mills are provided through the Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute.
Radiation oncology services include conventional external beam radiation treatments and recent technological advances, such as 3-D conformal treatment imaging and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). During the painless therapy, high-energy X-ray beams are aimed at the affected part of the body, Brenner explains.
Typical sessions last only a few minutes and, at the Owings Mills center, patients can be in and out without a major disruption to their day. Future plans include the addition of four chairs for infusion (chemo) therapy.
Brenner says the atmosphere is relaxed, supportive and upbeat, but the care and technology state-of-the-art. Ample parking and van transportation between LifeBridge Health campuses are available.
