Meisel 1 is a 40-bed chronic ventilator unit. Patients here no longer qualify for acute services, yet remain vent-dependent. This unit has an excellent weaning protocol and a good success rate in weaning patients from the ventilator. Our patients, aged 18 o 95, are slowly weaned from their ventilator dependence and we have had many successes in returning the patient to their home setting or acute rehab services. Out traumatic brain injured patients are especially successful in the weaning protocol, some with our coma emergence program. The interdisciplinary team consists of physicians, nurses, certified geriatric nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, social workers, activity therapists, speech language pathologist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, RN psychiatric clinical therapist, pharmacists, physician assistants and a chaplain. In addition, there is a full respiratory therapy team, providing full 24/7 coverage. This position requires a pharmacology exam which can be taken Monday - Friday between the hours of 8:30am to 3:30pm.
