The American Society of Bariatric Surgery (ASBS), has designated the Bariatric Surgery Program at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore the status of Center of Excellence.� This designation comes after a lengthy review process, which looked at numerous areas including safety, equipment, training of surgeons, the availability of consultant services and outcomes.
Being recognized as a Center of Excellence by a group of peers is a further validation of the high level of work done within the program,� said Alejandro Gandsas M.D., head of the Division of Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery. Additionally, the endorsement identifies the program as a trusted resource for new patients.�
The Sinai Bariatric Surgery Program, led by Gandsas and Christina Li, M.D., provides weight-loss alternatives for those morbidly obese individuals who have been unsuccessful in losing weight. The program offers the latest surgical techniques in gastric bypass, including laparoscopy and LAP-BAND, in addition to physician expertise, nutritional counseling and emotional support to help patients successfully realize their weight loss goals.

The American Society of Bariatic Surgery, founded in 1983, is the largest society of bariatric specialist in the world and provides additional resources and encouragement to it members. In addition, ASBS pursues clinical and laboratory research and promotes ethical guidelines and development of educational programs and materials.
