The Trink family spends almost every Friday morning taking part in the Welcome Shabbot program at Levindale. Welcome Shabbot was created for Levindale residents and patients who want to usher in the Jewish Sabbath with singing, dancing, prayers and remembrances.
With six children ranging in age from 1 to 13, Dr. Trink wants to make sure they understand the importance of helping others. They are home schooled, and in addition to math, science and English, she teaches them the value of donating their time. The residents are always glad to see the children, said Dr. Trink. But we also get so much out of our visits.
While the Trinks are often at Levindale on Fridays, they sometimes change their days if they are needed to help out with other programs. They also share the joy of other Jewish holidays with residents, taking part in the traditions and rituals. Sometimes they will write and perform their own skits.
If you are interested in volunteering or having your family help out at Levindale, you can contact the volunteer coordinator, Linda Goldberg, at 410-601-2260.
