It is our pleasure to welcome you to the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynecology Residency Program at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.
Our department has a rich heritage of resident education as well
as community service. Our residency program has been fully accredited for the
last 50 years. The hospital maintains other full-time independent
residency programs in Medicine, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Physical Medicine
and Rehabilitation, and Ophthalmology. The strong commitment to education
housed in a brand new obstetrical facility makes a wonderful environment for
resident education. I would encourage you to tour our Web site and become
familiar with the exceptional educational opportunities available within our
program.
The Residency Program is an independent, fully accredited, four-year
program that offers its 16 residents exposure to a rich blend of academic and
community medicine. Sinai is a 466-bed, tertiary-care hospital and a major
teaching affiliate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Sinai has a full-time
chairman, program directors, and board-certified faculty in all subspecialty
areas.
Our faculty members are dedicated to the educational mission of the
residency program. Subspecialist divisions include Gynecologic Oncology and
Maternal-Fetal Medicine. There is also a well-educated cadre of full-time
generalists in obstetrics and gynecology, and many voluntary staff members, who
have a strong interest in resident education.
Resident education is characterized by formal teaching, direct clinical
supervision and graduated patient responsibility. There is a broad exposure to
basic obstetrics and gynecology, all of the subspecialties, excellent clinical
and surgical volume, and a strong emphasis on the ambulatory health care of
women. Residents participate in the care of all patients with the goal of
becoming competent as well as sensitive health care providers.
Sinai Hospital provides comprehensive, integrated health care to the people
of greater Baltimore. Sixteen departments are represented by more than 164
full-time faculty, 500 part-time faculty and 350 community physicians. Special
Care Units exist for Rehabilitation, Cardiology, Intensive Care, Pediatrics and
PICU, Nursery and NICU, Obstetrics, Inpatient Psychiatry, and Women's Surgical
Services.
