Janet Conway, M.D., head of the Bone and Joint Infection division at the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics at Sinai Hospital, will be inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons. The induction ceremony takes place March 10, 2004, at the Academy�s 71st annual meeting in San Francisco.
Dr. Conway is part of the elite team of surgeons at the Rubin Institute�s International Center for Limb Lengthening, a first of its kind center in the United States. She also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of children and adult patients suffering from osteomyelitis (e.g., bone and joint infections), knee fusion for unsalvageable knee infections, and developmental deformities.
The Academy, with its more than 27,000 members, is the largest medical association for musculoskeletal specialists. Its members have completed medical school plus at least five years of specialty study in orthopedics in an accredited residency program, passed a comprehensive oral and written exam, and been certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
The American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons is a nonprofit organization that provides education programs for orthopedic surgeons, allied health professionals and the public. An advocate for improved patient care, the Academy is participating in the National Bone and Joint Decade, the global initiative to raise awareness of musculoskeletal health, stimulate research and improve people�s quality of life. President Bush has declared the years 2002-2011 National Bone and Joint Decade in support of these objectives.
