Meisel 2 is a 20-bed chronic ventilator unit. Patients here no longer qualify for acute services, yet remain vent-dependent. This unit has an excellent weaning protocol and a good success rate in weaning patients from the ventilator. Our patients, aged 18 to 95, are slowly weaned from their ventilator dependence and we have had many successes in returning the patient to their home setting or acute rehab services. The interdisciplinary team consists of physicians, nurses, certified geriatric nursing assistants, respiratory therapists, social workers, recreation therapists, speech language pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, pharmacists, physician assistants and a chaplain.
