Through Rehabilitation Services, Northwest Hospital Center staff works closely with patients to restore maximum physical and functional potential, address the psychological affects of each patients disability, and minimize the time it takes to return to daily activity. The Rehabilitation department provides services for patients disabled as a result of stroke, cancer, neurologic disorders, cardiopulmonary disorders, hand injuries and other orthopedic conditions. Care is provided through three areas in the hospital: inpatient acute care, subacute rehabilitation and outpatient services. All rehabilitation services require a referral from a physician.
Acute Care Services
As integral members of the acute treatment team, therapists work with physicians, nurses, social workers and other team members to improve the patient's range of function, train family members, bolster morale, facilitate hospital discharge planning and arrange follow-up care. Services are scheduled through a physician referral. To speak with a therapist, call 410-521-7986.
Inpatient Subacute Rehabilitation Unit
The Inpatient Subacute Rehabilitation Unit, a 24-bed unit, has dedicated contiguous treatment areas for physical, occupational and speech therapy. The specialized care area includes a kitchen setting, practice stairs, parallel bars and other tools to rehabilitate patients in a setting as similar as possible to the home and to allow patients the opportunity to perform functions independently. Treatment is provided seven days a week. For admission information, call 410-521-1186.
Outpatient Services
Members of the Northwest community can receive rehabilitation assistance through the Outpatient Services department Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Services range from hand therapy to the treatment of swallowing dysfunction to rehabilitation following joint replacement to the treatment of chronic pain. Specialized care is also provided for the geriatric patient. For appointments, call 410-521-5955.
