Board-certified general surgeons treat diseases that involve organ systems such as endocrine glands, and the gastrointestinal system, including operations on the liver and spleen, and gallbladder.  They also perform surgical procedures on the skin, and breast for benign and malignant diseases.  Hernias are also treated by a general surgeon.
