About The Krieger Eye Institute

Sinai's Department of Ophthalmology is based in the Krieger Eye Institute, which provides a full range of ophthalmic consultation services. At the forefront of ocular disease research and patient care, the Krieger Eye Institute has a highly trained staff of ophthalmologists, each of whom has a particular subspecialty. The staff provides the latest methods of surgical and non-surgical medical treatment of diseases of the eye, including glaucoma, strabismus, ocular tumors, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and cataracts. Other specialized areas include oculoplastic surgery for the correction of ptosis (sagging eyelids) and aging problems of the eye, orbital surgery, neuro-ophthalmology, pediatric ophthalmology and laser treatment for correction of nearsightedness (LASIK and PRK).

Today, the full-time ophthalmology staff has grown to cover the major subspsecialties with highly experienced staff members directing the subspecialty departments. Staff members are also committed to teaching and research with the ophthalmology residency program. Generous contributions from The Zanvyl Krieger Foundation and The Statter-Rosenthal Foundation established the Krieger Eye Institute and the ophthalmology clinic, allowing for Department expansion into the Morton Mower, M.D., Medical Office Building and within Sinai Hosptial.
