Profile
Dr. Gambert came to Sinai Hospital in the fall of 1998 from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-New Jersey Medical School, where he was Professor of Medicine and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Medicine. Previously, he was Professor and Acting Chairman of the Department of Medicine at New York Medical College and Director of Medicine at Westchester Medical Center. Dr. Gambert was also Associate Dean for Academic Programs at New York Medical College, where he chaired its Curriculum and Education Committee for over a decade. A graduate of Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, he did post-graduate training at Dartmouth and Harvard Medical School affiliated programs.
Dr. Gambert is known worldwide as an excellent clinician, teacher,
researcher, and leader in medical education and the medical disciplines of
geriatric medicine and endocrinology. His particular areas of interest and
expertise include endocrine aspects of aging, successful aging, and
age-prevalent illness. He has held numerous leadership positions in national and
international organizations, including being elected to the Board of Governors
of the American College of Physicians and having served as President of the
American Aging Association. He was a member of the National Board of Medical
Examiners' USMLE Step 3 Committee and a fellowship reviewer for the ACGME. He
has authored or co-authored over 300 articles, research reports, book chapters,
and books. Dr. Gambert has pioneered the use of community-based teaching
practices, computer assisted education, and the use of standardized patients for
training medical residents and students. Dr. Gambert was voted one of "America's
Best Doctors" in the 1996 physician survey published in American Health magazine
and the 2001-2007 Castle Connolly Physician Survey. He brings to Sinai Hospital
not only years of experience in medical education and clinical practice but also
excellence in and a commitment to teaching, as witnessed by resident and medical
student praise and evaluations. In 2007, Dr. Gambert was named a Master of the
American
College of Physicians, one of the
highest honors that can be bestowed upon an Internist.
