Resident Time Off
Residents receive 21 calendar days of vacation (three weeks of working days
plus six weekend days) during each full year of service. Family Medical Leave is
arranged with Human Resources and the Department according to hospital policy.
Chief residents receive three days of paid educational leave to attend a
conference of their choice.
Evaluations
Residents are evaluated monthly by the attending physician and chief resident
on a service. These evaluations are used as a component of a resident's
quarterly evaluation by the Program Director. Residents must take the annual
Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) in-training
examination, which is also an important component of the ongoing evaluation
process. The quarterly evaluation allows the Program Director to inform the
residents of their individual progress, emphasizing strong points and offering
guidance with regard to correcting deficiencies. Residents evaluate the
educational effectiveness of the program and faculty yearly.
Research and Scholarly Activity
Each resident is expected to complete one project of scholarly merit during
the four-year program. Several tracks may be taken, including participation with
an ongoing study, development of a new research project, or in-depth literature
reviews. Each resident is supervised by a faculty advisor, and presents his or
her project at the Sinai Resident Research Day Symposium.
Resident Resource Center
The Department's Resident Resource Center has a library, audiovisual teaching
aids, and two computers with Internet capabilities. Residents can conduct
Medline searches, retrieve abstracts, create manuscripts and spreadsheets, and
generate slides for presentations. The Center is the location for many of the
Department's lectures and conferences.
