In addition to the medical, physical, communication needs of a brain injury survivor, the RETURN! Brain Injury Day program offers support to both the client and family. This includes their emotional, psychosocial, vocational, and financial needs, as well as providing information regarding community resources.
Primary Counselor
Each client is assigned a Primary Counselor as part of the RETURN! Program. This counselor meets with the client individually to assist them with their emotional adjustment to functional changes and the RETURN! Program, review goals and treatment plan, and discuss community re-entry issues. A family team meeting is held typically around 5-6 weeks into the program. This gives the client, family, and therapy team an opportunity to discuss client�s progress in the program, how the client is doing at home, continued goals, and discharge plans.
Pre-Vocational Specialist
Our Pre-Vocational Specialist meets with each client to complete a screening to evaluate client�s vocational interests, return to work concerns, and connecting clients with appropriate vocational resources in the community. RETURN! Staff can also be involved with the facilitation of return to work plans. This may include providing counseling to clients around return to work issues, preparing a return to work plan, and contact with the employer to discuss the team�s recommendations.
Case Management
In addition to our other services, we provide case management for RETURN! clients. It our goal to help one navigate through the healthcare system, including aftercare services. Our Social Worker acts as the liaison between the insurance company, client/family, and treatment team to obtain authorization and continued coverage for the program. The team also evaluates what continuing community resources might be helpful and provides this information to clients and families.
Support Group
The Brain Injury Support Group, S.I.N.A.I-United (Survivors In Need After Injury), is open to brain injury survivors, family, friends, and caregivers. This group is affiliated with the Brain Injury Association of Maryland. It meets the 3rd Tuesday of the month in the lobby of the Schoeneman Building at Sinai.
