Sinai Hospital's VSP has been providing vocational services and employment opportunities to individuals with disabilities in the Baltimore metropolitan area for over 35 years. Accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and The Division of Rehabilitation Services of the Maryland State Department of Education (DORS), VSP is recognized for its high quality, comprehensive services.

VSP assists individuals with disabilities in identifying and fulfilling their potential through a continuum of vocational services and meaningful employment opportunities. VSP's flexible, client-centered continuum of services is comprised of career assessment services, work adjustment training, office technology skills training, job seeking skills, transitioning youth services, youth opportunity grant programs, case management, and direct employment. A single-point-of-entry system (intake) allows streamlined access to VSP's complete array of services.

VSP also offers an array of business services to the community. Presently, it maintains contracts for photocopying, mailing, packaging, assembly, and janitorial services.

Career Assessment Services

Career Assessment Services helps individuals make informed career choices. Certified staff assess work potential, ability and interests based on an individualized plan of services. This can include any of the following methods and techniques: Interviewing, paper and pencil tests, computerized tests, work samples, job tryout, and career exploration utilizing readily available career information. The consumer is encouraged to be an active participant in this process so that they can make an informed career choice.

Contemporary Office Technology Training

Contemporary Office Technology Training prepares clients for a variety of jobs. This training is based on industry standards, is generally 24 weeks in length, and utilizes state-of-the-art equipment. Ongoing instruction and hands-on activities will cover keyboarding, computer literacy, basic customer service techniques, basic English grammar skills, and clerical mathematical applications.

Transitioning Youth Services

The Transitioning Youth Services program helps young adults identify their vocational goals. This program provides work experience opportunity that helps to prepare young adults for the world of work. Goals are established focusing on furthering education, obtaining employment, or other individualized needs.

Work Adjustment Training

Work Adjustment Training is a program that promotes the development of appropriate work abilities, behaviors, and job retention skills within real work environments. Services focus on attendance, punctuality, grooming, hygiene, interpersonal skills, work productivity, stamina, communication skills, and work-related functional skills. Employer expectations, work place accommodations, assertiveness, interviewing, and listening skills are explored through hands-on experience and individual and group counseling.

Job Seeking Skills Training

During enrollment in other VSP programs, Job Seeking Skills Training (JSST) is provided to customers to assist them with developing the necessary skills.  JSST at VSP includes instruction in application completion, writing cover letters and thank you notes, résumé development and production, and interviewing skills. Confidence building, goal setting, methods for conducting an active and effective job search, and job retention are issues addressed with each individual.

Job Placement

Job Placement services are provided to individuals who complete other VSP programs, if placement services are desired and authorized by the referral source.  Placement services assist in identifying potential employers, completing applications, and preparing for interviews according to the individual's needs. This is accomplished through a variety of employment resources and frequent support by staff. Post employment services are available based on individual needs.

Community Employment Services

Through various federal, state, and local grants, VSP has established programs and services to assist youth in developing career goals, overcoming barriers to employment, reducing welfare dependency, and increasing educational and employment opportunities. By fostering partnerships with the community, VSP has been able to provide increased educational, training, and employment opportunities to individuals residing in this area.

Photocopying

VSP's Quick Copy Center offers high quality digital copy services at competitive prices. Both black and white and color copies are available. The copy center handles large quantities, color paper, card stock, even carbonless forms. Additional services include thermal tape binding, 3-ring binding, and GBC binding. With the Xerox DocuTech copy system, VSP can produce booklets, manuals, reports, forms, and notepads. Finishing services, such as stapling, folding, drilling, and collating, are provided to meet any requirement.

Mailing

VSP provides comprehensive first class and third class bulk rate mail fulfillment services that will meet customer time constraints for large or small orders. Mail preparation includes services such as folding, collating, inserting, labeling, metering, ZIP sorting, bundling, bagging, and delivery to the Post Office.
