Title Bunny Kohn, R.N. and Cora Cochran, L.P.N., named as Sinai Hospital's Nurses of the Year
Author Jill Bloom
410-601-5025
Release FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Description Sinai Hospital is proud to announce that Bunny Kohn, R.N., and Cora (Corby) Cochran, L.P.N., have been named this years R.N. and L.P.N. of the Year. This is an honor bestowed by peers and colleagues to a nurse whose performance depicts the highest levels of clinical knowledge, dependability, leadership, initiative, self-improvement, motivation and customer service.

Kohn, who was awarded the title of R.N. of the Year, has been an employee of Sinai Hospital since 1972. She began her career in Womens Surgery and continued on with the program after it was combined with the Department of Oncology in 1995. Since that time she successfully completed a local oncology and chemotherapy curriculum and earned her National Oncology Nursing Certification in 1999. Her clinical knowledge and experience have allowed her the opportunity to transfer from the Inpatient Oncology unit to the Outpatient Infusion Center located in the Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute at Sinai.

Bunny is a critical thinker who has the ability to make quick and accurate decisions for patients undergoing intense treatment on an outpatient basis. Her capabilities as a nurse are highlighted by her glowing personality and unquestionable care and concern for her patients, said Linda LaHart, R.N., director of Patient Care Services. Cochran was awarded L.P.N. of the Year. She has been with Sinai Hospital for four years. As a nurse in the Mother/Baby unit, she is known for going above and beyond the call of duty when it comes to caring for new moms and their babies.

It is not unusual for Corby to stay well past her shift when working with a patient. She has been known to give extra time to a breastfeeding mom who is experiencing a problem. It is that kind of care and dedication that makes Corby the kind of nurse we all strive to be, said Sharon Rossi, R.N.C., M.S., director of Patient Care for Womens & Children Services.

Both nurses were chosen for the award based on letters of recommendations from staff, supervisors, physicians and patients. As part of the honor, both received a check.
