LifeBridge Health & Fitness is launching a new and innovative program designed to assist cancer patients as they go through chemotherapy and post treatment rehabilitation. The first of its kind in the Baltimore area, this comprehensive, holistic approach to cancer treatment provides high quality exercise and wellness services to these patients.
"The goal is to teach cancer patients to exercise safely and ultimately improve their quality of life," said Jeffrey Quartner, MD, medical director, LifeBridge Health & Fitness. "A healthy exercise program can empower a person and help them withstand much of the physical stress caused by chemotherapy."
Monitored by a team of medical and fitness experts specially trained to work with cancer patients, those enrolled in the program can hope to improve their tolerance for pain, increase their breathing and oxygenation of tissues, enhance their endurance, raise their cardiovascular fitness levels, and improve their quality of sleep.
"The program incorporates cardiovascular exercise, strength training, proper nutrition and meditation exercises," said Yvonne Ottaviano, MD, cancer program medical director, LifeBridge Health & Fitness. "It is a well-rounded approach that touches on every facet needed to promote good health."
Additional services such as personal training sessions, massage therapy, acupuncture and herbal therapy will also be made available to program participants at a discounted rate.
Those interesting in enrolling in the program can call Stephanie Goldberg at 410-484-6800, extension 109 for more information.
