From classical to jazz, from big band to pop, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital dietary aide Nate McCullough can play them all, and he doesn�t read a note of music.
Nate�s talent was discovered at Levindale by accident. When he had a break from his work in the kitchen, he�d tickle the ivories on Levindale�s units for anyone who was around. Gradually, he drew more and more of a crowd, and the word spread about his talent. He can play almost any song by ear, no matter how complicated. Not only that, but he also composes music.
Administrators at Levindale decided to do something about this talented performer. They gave him an old piano, and he has been paying for piano lessons twice a month for about a year with teacher Robert Hitz. In exchange, Nate plays for the residents, families and staff at different gatherings. Nate has also been known to share his talents at events around Baltimore, including at an area restaurant. In fact, he has agreed to play for Levindale�s annual board meeting in January.
Nate is 21 years old and grew up in Baltimore. He and his fiancee, Madeline Godley, who also works in the dietary department at Levindale, have a young son, Keon. Nate has been working at Levindale for four years. I love helping the patients,� says Nate. It also makes me feel good that they like my music.�
