As a member of the Alzheimer�s Association�s Greater Maryland Chapter Medical & Scientific Advisory Board, Debra Wertheimer, M.D., will be one of this year�s Superhero� honorees at the Association�s Memory Ball 2004 on Saturday, March 27 at 7 p.m. at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel.
Dr. Wertheimer, a physician at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, has been a board member since 1995.
The entire Board is being recognized as a group for creating new guidelines for experimental treatments involving people with Alzheimer�s disease and moral questions surrounding their informed consent. These strategies have been adopted by the National Alzheimer�s Association and will be sent to research organizations worldwide. Dr. Wertheimer is one of ten volunteer board members.
Dr. Wertheimer graduated from George Washington University School of Medicine in 1977. She completed an internship in internal medicine at Baltimore City Hospital and is board eligible in internal medicine and certified in hospice and palliative medicine.
According the Alzheimer�s Association, each of the Memory Ball honorees shares an endless devotion to the cause and inspires others.� The Association is dedicated to raising money, researching treatments, supporting people with Alzheimer�s and their families and finding a cure for this devastating disease.
Alzheimer�s disease is a disorder that causes the gradual loss of brain cells and is the leading cause of dementia.
