Surgeons within the Limb Reconstruction Fellowship Program will work side by side with the Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics residents who are also assigned to the International Center for Limb Lengthening. Limb reconstruction fellows have a certain service commitment, as do the residents. However, the goal for the fellow is primarily educational. Fellows do not supplant the orthopaedic residents nor are they assigned responsibilities outside the scope of practice or outside the direct supervision of program faculty as described in these guidelines. Fellows will cooperate with residents and participate equally in activities pertaining to research and medical/surgical patient care in the clinics, wards, and operating rooms and as assigned by the Program Director. Fellowship activities will not be assigned so as to dilute the training of the residents nor will residency training be conducted so as to dilute the educational experience of the fellows.

Fellows acting in a research capacity without patient contact will not act independently in any capacity involving patient care but will instead be present for the purposes of observation, consultation, teaching, or research only. No element of patient services will be involved.
